The City of Literature Foundation, established in 2013 in Kraków, promotes culture and literature and helps implement Kraków’s strategy for UNESCO City of Literature. The Foundation is organizing, in partnership with Kraków Festival Office, the fourth Miłosz Literary Festival in 2015. The Foundation’s projects encourage active participation in culture and shape public space with literary murals and other cultural events.
The Wisława Szymborska Foundation was established in 2012 in Kraków by the Nobel Prize winner’s last testament. The Foundation’s tasks are to attend to Wisława Szymborska’s literary legacy and, starting in September 2013, to grant an international poetry award in the poet’s name. The Foundation also provides monetary aid to writers who are in difficult financial situations. There are plans for other awards and grants, as well as for comprehensive activities that aim at propagating literature and reading.
The New Art Foundation ZNACZY SIĘ, established in 2009, provides a space devoted to building Kraków’s book culture.
